Result - Stragglers of Asia

Sun May 19th The Grannies lose by 3 wickets

Match report

A cracking fixture with a lots of ebb and flow.

Grannies lost the toss and were put in to bat. Openers Streeter and Parkinson were quick off the mark with a 100 partnership from 17 overs. Things were looking ominous for the Stragglers...

Such was the confidence of the opening pair that the shots got bigger and bigger. Unfortunately, both Parkinson and Streeter fell in quick succession to (very well taken) catches in the deep. At this point, the Stragglers introduced their ringer whose Yorker ball was the undoing of several Grannies.

There were a few useful starts from other Grannies (R. Bethwaite 18 and K. Chhibber 15*) but nobody was quite able to push on.

After some fine bowling from the Stragglers, Grannies finished on 214 all out (probably 25 runs short of par on a decent track).

An early wicket from Olly Butler gave the Grannies hope.

Olly and Hector Don both put in excellent displays of pace bowling and were constantly probing the batsmen. That said, it was a long wait until the second fell with the Stragglers sitting fairly comfortably on 105-2.

The introduction of Mike Fernie changed the dynamic of the game and saw a quick flurry of Stragglers scalps. With Mark Pougatch keeping things tight behind the stumps the Stragglers suddenly found themselves 174-7 with a nervy push to the line (Digby Don and Mike Fernie each taking a wicket).

To their credit, the Stragglers' middle order saw out the game with three wickets in hand. We'll get them next year.
