Result - Castle Hill

Sun May 21st The Grannies lost by 1 wicket

Match report

The toss was won yet gain by Castle Hill, who after last year, having batted first and lost, decided to ask us to bat.
The track was extremely slow and with varied bounce, fairly normal for this time of year at Castle Hill.
So patience was required, by all batsmen, including Mr Gardiner-Hill !!!
Dan Pritchard and James Caldwell started us off, but as they were beginning to get used to the pitch were out.
Then we had a partnership between Ed GH (68) and Mike Bellhouse (26), who at times played out the bowling with no scoring.
Once they were out, others went in and tried to get some quick runs, but still found it difficult.
We declared after 40 overs on 167 - 9 and tea was taken.
Tom Bell started us off and ended up with figures of 18 for 1 from 7 overs and Dan Pritchard the other end with 25 for 1 from 8 overs.
So it was still all to play for when Alastair Deighton came on.
He turned the game towards a Grannies win, by consistently taking wickets with his off spin, although conceding the odd boundary.
At the start of the 20 overs the Grannies only needed a few more wickets to win, while Castle Hill still required 60 plus.
We had not counted on a young Castle Hill player hitting a quick 50 and maybe in hindsight we should have mixed things up a bit more, rather than hope he might make a mistake.
So, having been in the driving seat, the Grannies ended up losing by one wicket.
Alastair finished with figures of: 75 for 6 off 11 overs.
James Caldwell had figures of: 24 for 1 off 7 overs and Toby Gundry 22 - 0 off 3.1 overs.
A good game none the less, on a lovely sunny day, with everyone involved and revenge for last year taken by Castle Hill.
Many thanks to all that played.
Enjoy the rest of the season.
