Sun Sep 18th Grannies win by 3 wkts in last over thriller!

Match report

On a beautiful late summer day no less than 12 Grannies took the field (by previous arrangement with the opposition) - is this a record? our medium pace attack was able to exploit a 'sticky'to great effect, supported by some fine and quite uncharacteristic fielding and catching. Special mention should be made of Felix Tritton's (Pou's grandson)devastating opening spell (2-20), Neal Pearce's persistent length (2-19) and the usual later stage Fernie contribution (3-23), with great catches taken by James Philpot, Max Felgate and Toby Savage (c).As a result of all this hard work the Stone team (mostly league players) was restricted to only 160 runs from its 40 overs. Batting was not much easier for the Grannies, but we kept the 4-an-over average going, with solid contributions from Adam Parkinson, Philpot, Pearce and in particular Jono Garforth, who really gave us scent of victory with a splendid 53. It was then left to Savage (26 n.o.) and the match manager (an exquisite 5 n.o.) to see the Grannies home with just 2 balls to spare, Toby finishing things with a towering 6 over mid wicket (just!). All in all one of the great 'Granny' days - even the opposition seemed happy for us after so many years of trying and failing.
