Result - Parham Park

Sun Jul 10th Grannies win by 28 Runs

Match report

Grannies 179-8, 35ov.
Parham 151-10, 34.5ov.

On a damp and overcast Sunday afternoon, The Grannies turned in a very solid performance to overcome Parham Cricket Club. The start to the match was delayed by 30 minutes to allow the outfield to dry in the brisk South Westerly and the increasingly bright sky. With the home skipper suggesting a limited overs format, rather than the traditional declaration fixture, The Grannies lost the toss and were put in to bat. In a Grannies team bolstered by some local RRMC recruits, Adam Parkinson and Simon Baldey opened the batting on a low, slow track in an attempt to put a competitive 35 overs score on the board. The opening partnership put on 42 at 4.5/over before Parkinson was caught behind for 8. This brought first Jonny Morris (10) and then Ed Daniell (1) to the wicket to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Baldey departed for 57 in the 24th over with the score at 100-4, leaving Lewis Roberts at the crease. Roberts was supported by Rob Clilverd (7) and Nick Brett (10) as he pushed to score on nicely, and with overs running out and 2 quick wickets (Chris Radford (0), Oliver Baldey (0)), it was left to Jon Staniforth (5*) to accompany Roberts (68*) to the close. The Grannies finishing on 179-8 off 35.

The Parham innings started cautiously, facing the meager bowling of Brett and Staniforth, the latter having to resort to bowling off a couple of paces following a calf niggle in his 3rd over, however he was able to bowl seven straight, for just 14 runs. With the opening partnership slowly gathering pace, it was the first change bowling of Mike Fernie that finally forced a breakthrough, with a great catch running in from long off by Morris. As often happens, one wicket became two with another bowling change allowing Radford to take his first Grannies wicket, a simple catch for O Baldey. Fernie removed the second opener before Oliver Baldey then got into the act, a smart stumping from Parkinson sending the dangerous Trott back without troubling the scorers. It was then just left to the pairing of Brett and Roberts to remove the remaining Parham players with 124-4 turning in to 151-10 courtesy of another smart stumping by Parkinson and another great catch at long on, this time from Radford. A good victory for the Grannies, and my thanks to all the players for turning out and playing the game in such a positive spirit.
