Result - Lord Carnarvon's XI

Sun Jun 26th Match drawn

Match report

I've lost the copy of the scorebook so for the time being here is a short recap of the game.

Lord Carnarvon's XI, having been beaten last year, sought to strenghten their team with a few Essex Premier league players. They scored a shed loads of runs including a hundred from one chap (dropped more times than I can remember). Some tidy bowling from the Grannies sought to restrict the oppo but they declared with over 300 on the scoreboard.

A daunting score awaited the Grannies. Lord Carnarvon opened their bowling with a maiden which brought Frank Strachan on to strike. 6 balls later the bowler was collecting his cap from the umpire and the score board had a healthy 20 runs registered. 3 off drives, 2 on drives and one slightly grumpy opening bowler.... The same bowler came back for more of the same, Strachan smashing him at will to the fence....cue grumpy bowler disappearing off in to the distance. Scoreboard now registering just under 50, the run chase was very much on. This set the tone for the run chase. Strachan eventually fell for 88, leaving the Grannies chomping at the bit to chase down the total down....and chase the total down the Grannies almost did. Christian Rooney stepped up to the plate and smashed the ball to all parts....and victory looked on the cards but sadly, the overs ran out and the Grannies ended up a few runs shy of the total but with wickets in hand. 700 odd runs scored in the day, a competitive game enjoyed by all. Bring on next year (and if anyone can send me a copy of the scorebook, I can add in more names/details to the write up).

Match info

What more do I have to say than this game is played on one of the foremost private estates in the country. The lunches and teas are legendary, the welcome warm, the bar is well stocked. A beautiful ground in a beautiful estate - this game is perfect to bring the family along to. Roll out the picnic blanket, watch Lord Carnarvon updating the scoreboard and the Grannies running around in the field.

We won the match last year so they will be out for revenge.....and for those who still watch ITV, this estate is where Downtown Abbey is filmed.

This game is one not to be missed!!! Apply early because take up is high.
