Match report

Everyone left the ground smiling...that's the beauty of this fixture. We spent most of the afternoon chasing leather with each bowler, the exception being the excellent left arm seam bowling of candidate Paul Goss, serving up a delightful buffet for the Old Spots batsmen. "Hands up who dropped a catch?" A forest of arms reached for the sky...including two exceptionally long ones of the skipper.

The batting didn't start well..Jim, Draff and Knighty went cheaply to gentle swingers..until Ben Yeates stopped the rot with Scottie..the later playing fluently for 70 odd..and Grinders at the end putting on a show with some wonderful free hitting to post a half century of his own.

Other highlights...Ben's fielding got the cows over excited, the umpire used a walkie talkie to communicate with the scorer (along the lines of "Broad Sword calling Danny Boy..." ..by the way if you can tell me who said that and in what film then I'll buy you a pint...after next year's game), Grannies debut for Paul Goss made in style as two sitters went down, the usual ham sandwiches, only one pig left as the other one popped its clogs over winter (no connection with the sandwiches), and Michael Bluett laid down his..er..shin in the line of duty (although the ball won the battle).

We got beaten quite heavily...but we all left the ground smiling.

Match info

A new fixture for the Grannies in 2006 this is a beautiful, privately owned ground attached to a pig farm deep in the heart of Surrey. No coincidence then that the ham sandwiches at tea are some of the best you'll taste! The Old Spots play their cricket in the same spirit as the Grannies which makes for a competitive but friendly game. Nice place to bring the family too.

In 2006 we gave them a hiding...and in 2007 they beat us in a more balanced contest, but it is fair to say that we didn't perform to our potential.

How to get there
Follies Farm is a mile out of Chiddingfold on the road to Dunsfold. Chiddingfold is on the A283 about halfway between Milford (just off the A3) and Petworth. Heading south on the A283 at Chiddingfold turn left at the green (not the cricket pitch). Follow this road out of Chiddingfold for about a mile and take the first turning left. Follies Farm is on the right hand side. The ground is not visible from the road but is down a track perpendicular to the road running through the farm. Mind the pig!
