Sun Aug 16th The Grannies lost by 43 runs
Match report
Before the game even started it was always going to be a tough ask to continue an unbeaten run against Marden's Saints team. For 1, the Grannies team consisted of 2 actual Grannies with the majority of the team not having played cricket all summer and 2, because the Grannies were not facing the usual Saints team, but players from either the Saturday 1st or 2nd teams.
Marden decided to bat first and as in the past everyone except the wicket-keeper and 1 very senior Granny bowled a minimum of 2 overs, some not surprisingly lasting longer than required, so extras was a high scorer after the 30 overs had been bowled. Dropping catches and kicking the ball over the boundary in the usual customary Granny manner did not help, but the bowling did improve for those that bowled more than 2.
The Grannies were set a target of 184, having taken 7 wickets. This was gettable but going to take one or two of the top order to score 50 plus and others to chip in. Sadly that did not happen, we got to 109 for 3, with Nick Herbert making 49 and Ed Brennan 37, but were all out for 140 off 25 overs.
A very enjoyable game was had by all on both teams, with everyone involved, even if Marden did not wish to be very generous with their bowling to make more of a game of it.
A big thank you from me to all who played and to Rob (Finn) for managing the team.
