Match report
On a hot day in Oxfordshire, The Grannies stuck to their to their task very well in the field, debutant JJ Sugden enjoying a lively opening spell. The Downs opener hit hard but from 118/1 we whittled away at their batting, Oliver Simpson’s 5 for 63 the highlight, very well supported by his spin twin Harry Felgate with 3/15 at the other end. 196 was gettable, and at 104 for 4 we had every chance, especially with another debutant, Sam Wallis, going well. It was great to see Mark Johnstone back in Granny colours after an absence of two decades and to see a third debutant, Archie Smellie, follow in his much missed father’s footsteps by playing for us. Jonners made 25, Sam Wallis an excellent 56 but the support was lacking and we couldn’t hold out, all out for 149. An enjoyable day nevertheless!
