Match report

It was a glorious day. Smiles on faces. A small crowd. Beautiful pulled pork tea between the innings enjoyed by all in the usual stunning surrounds. All who played bagged a spot to play in the fixture next year.

Parham won the toss and put the Grannies into bat. After a tricky start on a 'sporty' wicket from the opening pair, the middle order took control putting swift runs on the board. Five Grannies were caught attempting to avoid the longer than usual outfield turf, with Jonny Morris scoring 14 off 3 balls, and skipper Archie Clarke sneaking 5 boundaries despite the long blades, and the Grannies were 75 for 5 after 15 overs. The Grannies managed 101 all out, a total that ultimately turned out to be around 20 runs too few to defend, with Parham making 102 with three wickets to spare, having initially been 50 for 4 at the halfway stage in reply.

A relatively low-scoring game, but no less exciting for it. 20 more runs and we’d have tested the nerves of the robust big-hitters of the home side, but as it was, our total wasn’t quite enough and we were narrowly beaten but thoroughly enjoyed by all, and looking forward to next year.
