Sun Aug 13th The Grannies win by 8 wickets

Match report

An excellent 8 wicket win for probably the youngest Grannies team on record where only the venerable treasurer Jim Streeter was over 30, let alone 40! Opening bowlers and debutants Frank Faber and Freddie Evans shared 3 wickets and were on the money from the start, Freddie dismissing the OD's dangerman the ball after he'd completed a rapid 50. Harry Felgate weighed in with 3 wickets, the fielding and catching (!) was almost faultless, 20 year old Billy Stephens on his debut got 2 in 2, and captain Sam Pougatch skilfully rotated his bowlers before picking up the last two wickets. James Woodcock was excellent behind the stumps with three dismissals. Felix Tritton was re-born off a shorter run up!
Chasing 141 to win, and mindful of so many near misses, the Chairman couldn't bear to watch and went off to work but this time there were no alarms. Big Jim and Sam White got us away to a smooth start, Sam made 54, debutant Leo Boddington 39* and we cruised home by 8 wickets. A win. Well played the young team. (And Jim)
