Sun Aug 6th The Grannies lose by 6 wickets

Match report

The Grannies turned up to a familiar fixture in good spirits following the famous victory last year. With a new skipper in place, The Grannies lost the toss and were asked to bat on a lively looking surface. A couple of early wickets fell with the scorers not being troubled too much but S Pougatch picked up where he left off the previous year and was playing some beautiful shots. However, the slow unreliable pitch started to cause the Grannies some issues with wickets starting to fall including that of the opener whose teammates were carrying great hopes of another famous innings. The Grannies found themselves on a respectable 71 for 3 when Pougatch was beaten by the opening bowler who picked up a fiver fer. A Grannies collapse then ensued with the team slipping to 110 – 9 . The tail wagged in the form of T Tritton and H Felgate with the latter picking up a career high score of 20*. Eventually bowled out for 143, a score a little below par but some good bowing on a tricky wicket meant the Grannies felt they had a chance with a youthful bowling attack ready to steam in.

After a delicious tea, The Grannies bowlers took to the field. T Colehan making his debut quickly removed both openers before T Tritton took a third. With the score at 20-3, the Grannies were feeling positive, and the track was proving hard to play on. However, the hosts no 4 came to the crease and knew how to handle the pitch. He took the game away from the Grannies with a fine 74*. S Pougatch took a stunning catch but to no avail with the home side taking a 6-wicket victory. A honourable mention to F Tritton who kept wicket for the first time ever whilst only conceding 2 byes.

A great day out with the game played the way it should be. The Grannies will be back to make amends next year.
