Result - London New Zealand

Sat Jul 8th The Grannies lose by 39 runs

Match report

SW Rail's seasonal offering of Strikes 'cuit grévé' with a side of Strikes couldn't keep a youthful Grannies side full of Hope(s) from the annual pilgrimage down to Sheffield Park and a contest with the LNZ.

The sun shone favourably on the LNZ's side of the coin and they elected to bat first on a flat but turgid wicket.

Debutant M. Molinga, fresh from a week of R&R at the in-laws, kept the opposition guessing in the early rounds. He was more than ably supported at the other end by C.Hope who delivered a miserly and brutal opening spell, coming back in the final overs to finish with an impressive 3-for-few. A tidy performance from the wider bowling group checked progress and the Grannies kept their guests to a very gettable 180 off 40 overs.

A hearty lunch gave way to an impressive start and the Grannies top order cantered along to 80-2 off 10 overs. Heady thoughts of an early finish at the Griffin proved too much however and once again the team succumbed to a TGC (Trademark Grannies Collapse). An early finish was indeed achieved but with the scorecard reading 141 all out, and victory to the LNZ by 39 runs.

As ever, our guests treated us to a generous post match presentation and the day was happily dissected, beer in hand, looking out over the best view a pub can get.

How to get there
It lies midway between East Grinstead and Lewes, 5 miles north west of Uckfield, on the east side of the A275 (between A272 and A22).

Use the main entrance off the A275, signed Sheffield Park and Garden. Follow the sign to the visitors car park. Continue past the car park through the two sets of wooden gates. If the gates are locked the number for the padlocks is 1111.

Once through the bottom gate, follow the track around to the left and you will see the signs marked "Armadillos CC Car Park". Please park within the signs; you should not park beyond the final sign stating that parking is not allowed beyond that point. You may however drive up to the pavilion to drop off any equipment, but must then return to the designated car park straight away. You will see the ground (and the pavilion) through the trees from the car park. The ground is surrounded by a deer fence but the gates through it will be unlocked.
