Result - Odiham & Greywell

Sat Sep 3rd The Grannies win by 3 wickets

Match report

Following a rather embarrassing defeat at Odiham the previous summer, the Grannies arrived on a boiling hot September day with a strong looking 11. After losing the toss and being sent out to field, things didn’t start too well with the Odiham openers putting on 97 before H Felgate took his first wicket to break the strong partnership before removing the other opener to the relief of the team. J Staniforth them bowled a beauty of an inswinger to remove the no 3 before the ball was tossed to Scottie who tore through the remaining wickets bowling with superb consistency and accuracy. Scottie ended the innings with 5 wickets for 25 runs off his 8 overs which really changed the tide of the innings. Despite Scottie taking the headlines, H Felgate deserves a mention for his 3 wickets included removing their star batsman for a golden duck. 9 bowlers were used on a hot day showing the all round skill of the Grannies and they managed to restrict the hosts to 200 after a very promising start. In typical Grannies style extras was the second highest score, so a bit of work to do before next year.

Chasing 201 to win of the 40 overs, Jim and the skipper F Tritton took to the middle to face a formidable opening bowler who was hitting the right line and length with good speed. After a solid start the Odiham bowlers started to cause some damage at the top of the order by leaving the Grannies 88-5 at the drinks with the dangerous B Maisey back in the pavilion. S Hungin and T Tritton managed to steady the ship with Tritton reaching an impressive half century at better than a run a ball. After Hungin was removed it was left to father and son T & C Tritton to get the Grannies home and they did in some style. The Grannies got to the target with 5 overs to spare resulting in a great 3 wicket victory. MOTM to Scottie for his superb bowling performance but a fantastic effort all round.
