Sun Jun 19th The Grannies lose by 27 runs

Match report

I suspect that if one were to look back through old GCC scorebooks, 2 names would appear consistently through the ages. The names of Pougatch and Pullen are synonymous with the club. Indeed, the 2022 vintage continue to dominate the same venerated pages. Not for the first time Toby Pullen, son to David (The General) and Grandson to Nigel, took a significant liking to the Grannies bowling. A typically fluent and fast century ensured that there was a hefty total to chase and some unflattering bowling stats. In amongst the carnage Ben Hope, flying in from Australia for the day (as one does), bowled fast and hard, fully deserving his 2-33. Simo & Pou (Sam) both chipped in with some excellent slow bowling carding 2-48 & 1-41 respectively. At the end of 35 overs Fletching had made a more than useful 277-6.

The GCC reply started strongly with Harvey Park(24) and Simo (23) putting on a valuable half century stand. Unfortunately both fell shortly thereafter and while still up with the run rate, batters got in and out in short order. Pougatch, Dent & Fountain all refused to die wondering but die they did ! If having scored a ton wasn't enough Master Pullen came back on to take 2-54. His figures suffering at the hands of Ben Hope who scored a brutal 53. Despite some lusty blows the innings ran out of puff as night descended with the Grannies closing on 251-8.
