Wed Apr 13th Bedford wins Rocking Chair with 35 points

Match report

With the odd “young” exception, 12 veteran Granny golfers assembled on a lovely, warm Spring day on the Downs course at Goodwood for the club’s annual fixture, eyeing each others’ torsos to see who had put on the most weight or lost the most hair since we all last met. Hamilton and Creff showed off their legs to good effect whilst Don had forgotten to shed his shepherding trousers having been up lambing under Margot’s instructions at 2 in the morning. The rest of us were more circumspect in our attire. The same couldn’t be said of the tales of yore which got taller and taller as the day progressed.
Despite the lack of practice at this time of year and the occasional wheels coming off, the scores on this tough course showed remarkable skills spawned from memory with the majority in the 30’s and Bedford clinching the coveted rocking chair by the skin of his teeth with 35 points closely followed by Slocock and Hamilton with 34 and Carr with 33. At the other end of a short spectrum, Fernie gave his team great encouragement with the odd air shot at the beginning to pick up the prize for the most outrageous shot. Winners of the A team were Russell and Hamilton with 67 points; winners of the B team were Slocock and Don with 62 points and winners of the C team were Stanners and Draff.
Stanners also picked up the prize for nearest the pin and would also have snaffled the longest drive but graciously conceded that to Draff on the basis that you can’t, in theory, win more than one prize. Thankfully, the two big hitters of Russell and Hamilton were either wayward or a whisker short.
Other prizes were distributed as follows:
Best dressed – Hamilton with his shorts and rainbow socks.
Worst dressed- Don who forgot to change his lambing trousers.
Left Handers – Carr, who had made a remarkable recovery from a recent car crash.
The oldest and only Granny trolley puller – Begg
Can’t remember! – Creff and Rayer

So there we are; a fun day was had by all.
