Match report
The weekend of 14th and 15th May 2022 resulted in typical British weather, with Saturday being hot and possibly too hot for cricket, to drizzle and overcast on the Sunday, but at least not cold.
It led to one Grannies game being called off near Aylesbury, with the Grannies 14 for 5, so I suspect a good lunch was had there and the other resulting in a win at Castle Hill near Tunbridge Wells in Kent.
The toss was won by the Grannies and without any hesitation, we batted and had a very unusual opening partnership of 104 from 19 overs, Rob Finn 57 and Devon Campleman 53, with Fin Tomlinson coming in at 3 and scoring 63.
The Grannies were able to declare after 39 overs at 222 for 4.
A very nice tea was provided and then the Grannies took to the field in the drizzle, which although not nice, resulted in very few lusty blows from the oppo going for 4. This meant that after 19 overs, they were 60 for 2, the first wicket falling on the first ball of the innings and also well behind the required scoring rate and only 2 more overs were bowled before the 20 overs started.
Once the third wicket was taken, wickets started to fall fairly regularly and with 5 overs to go the Grannies needed one more wicket to win the game, which they got in the penultimate over, with Castle Hill all out for 168 from 39.1 overs
Surprisingly, given that the oppo were unlikely to ever get the Grannies total, it was to their credit and our benefit that they continued to player their shots and never shut up shop.
The wickets were shared amongst the 7 bowlers, Rob Park finishing with 3 wickets from 8.1 overs for 18 runs.
Three catches were taken by Devon, but perhaps the catch of the game and possibly the season, already, was by Rob Finn, who ran round the boundary, to slide and take a catch just above the ground as the ball went over Devon's head as he ran back to also try and catch it.
All at the ground could not believe it, but no more than Rob himself.
Just to say, we did still keep up the Grannies tradition of dropping a sitter of a catch, but no names will be mentioned.
A big thank you to all who played, but especially to Rob (Park) for marshalling the troops on the field and to Harvey Park for recruiting some additional players, with out his help it is unlikely we would have got a team together.
