Match report
The fixture having originally been slated for late June was happily re-scheduled as a mid week T20 game. The change in format however didn’t do anything to change the rather depressingly familiar outcome, with The Griffin winning by 59 runs. Having put the home team in, the Grannies found it hard to contain the early aggression of Ben Pullan and young Wilf Pickard. Siebert (3-27) & Amato (0-31) pulled it back before Toby Pullan and Johnny Beck bludgeoned some friendly bowling to post a challenging 183-8. This total included 25 wides care of a slightly over fastidious umpire (we have his name and know where he lives). The total would have been even higher but for some excellent late innings bowling by Will Siebert (2-18) supported by guest gloveman, Harvey Park, who took 4 terrific stumpings.
In reply the Grannies got off to an encouraging start through Toby Sykes (20) & Gabba O’Brien (20), both striking the ball beautifully. However, Grannies turncoats Pullan B & Pullan T took some excellent catches to halt the charge. At the halfway mark we were still up with the required rate but with 7 wickets down the outcome was sadly never in doubt. The skipper was the last man out with the score on 124, being run out by a modest 10 yards after calling for a somewhat optimistic second. While it was disappointing to lose, all agreed it was great to resurrect the fixture. Pleasingly the after match drinks at the Griffin were a much closer affair.
