Sat Sep 7th Grannies lose by 37 runs in a 35 over per side game.

Match report

The best laid plans of mice and men should be the title of this report!

The skipper having selected a good looking side was firstly kiboshed, when he was about to leave home and was rung by Felix Tritton, one of our opening bowlers, to say his car had broken down and he would come by train. This sounded fine until there was a fatality on the line to Basingstoke and he was delayed well into the Odiham innings (finally picked up by the Chairman, sadly indisposed for the game). This was compounded by Alex Stone, first change, who was purportedly following Matt Siebert, got hopelessly lost and also turned up well into the Odiham innings.

Back to the start though. The skipper lost the toss and Odiham elected to bat. Billy Maisey opened and bowled with speed and hostility and returning at the end to take the last two wickets. He removed their best batsman with a beauty and in all returned figures of 3 - 29. Oli Baldey who helped out for the missing Felix was hit a bit and was taken off after three overs. The skipper was reasonably economical at 1- 26 but the star od and the one bright side of the late arrival of the other bowlers was as we looked round for other bowlers up stepped Simon Baldey, playing his first game of the year, and bowled beautifully taking 4 - 34. Alex Stone when he arrived also took a wicket.

The Odiham score of 186 looked quite gettable particularly as we got off to a good start through Streeter 12 and Baldey 27 and although we had a number get started Richards 20 Morris 14 and Maisey 27 no one stuck in there and we were dismissed for 147. One was left wondering what might have been!

It is sad to note that this was the weekend that Rob Frome who represented both the Grannies and Odiham died. A very sad coincidence.
