Match report
Over the years this fixture has seen many close and exciting matches and for a time the 2019 vintage promised a repeat
Following some heavy overnight rain, the Grannies were put into bat and soon found themselves 2 down in challenging conditions. Darren Almeida at the top of the innings refused to be downbeat by the early setbacks and looked to keep the score moving forward with a 30 that was both circumspect and caviller.
Matthew Gullick looking to go big on comeback batted well for his 28 before being bowled by one that kept low.
At this point this point in the innings the Williams brothers looked to have some fun and put on a 60-run partnership for the 5th wicket. Jamie having decided to play his shots hit a powerful 28 including 3 sixes. Richard played a more watchful innings but soon began to express himself playing expansive shots to every corner of the ground, before finishing unbeaten 62. It was good to have Will Jerabek back in whites after injury and to see him carry his back after providing excellent support to Williams.
With the Grannies having 169 -6 from their 35 overs a quick start in the field was required.
It was not long before R Williams with the new ball had Falconhurst 2 down. (both caught by his brother J Williams). He was supported by an all spin attack of Will Siebert, James Cartwright, Mike Fernie, Toby Sykes and Darren Almeida who all did a brave job for the team on a ground clearly devised by someone with a deep-rooted hatred of spin bowling.
Sadly, further breakthroughs proved to elusive and Falconhurst knocked off the runs with little drama.
Grannies lost by 8 Wickets.
