Match report
What is it about games like these when The Grannies find themselves facing a side full of other GCC members only to find that is those same erstwhile “friends” who put us to the sword ?
As ever it was text book stuff
1 BBQ at the skippers
2 arrive late to ground to find oppo are still in the pub
3 lose toss and put into bat
4 Listen to Pullan (D) tell how well the pitch is playing this year (bluff)
5 flatter to deceive with bat as a number got in (Big Jim 24, Bradley 29 and Amato 40) and then out. That said 144 looked a competitive total
6 retire to an excellent 5 star tea
That is the point that the text book was ripped up. A decent opening stand by the oppo (but long-standing Grannies) David Pullan and Atkin was broken by Bradley and then Will Siebert snaffled another. That though was as close as we came to victory as Toby Pullan (another Granny, obviously), joined his father and proceeded to demonstrate a master class in brutal hitting and timing on what was a 2 paced, variable bounce pitch. Well played too Pullan senior. Normally he can be relied upon to slow the run rate and then get out. Not this year as he saw off the new ball and played some shots before his younger son took matters into his own hands.
Sadly therefore another loss for the Grannies vs our old rivals The Griffin. There is always next year. Perhaps Toby should play for us next year ?
