Sun Sep 9th Grannies win by 20 odd!

Match report

'One of the finest batting sides ever to represent the club' was inserted and quickly went several down, on a wicket which did way more than it should have done. The recovery which ensued owed everything to the shot selection of Toby Pullan........ and a hammy injury suffered by the oppo's wicket-taking seamer. Toby went on to get an invaluable 50-odd. He was ably assisted by Billy Maisey who crashed it far and wide for 40-odd, ultimately not crashing it far enough or wide enough to evade (very) deep long-on. There were then cameo 20-odds from Scottie and James Tod (welcomed back to the fray for the Grannies after a horror health fright) and ultimately we were all out on the stroke of tea for 140-odd.
After tea Matt Withers (a specialist keeper who is a fine bat but has now added bowling to his portfolio of talents!) steamed in from the top end and Billy from the bottom end, and they were followed by other members of 'one of the finest bowling sides ever to represent the club', to wit Jono Garforth, who bowled 8 or so beautiful overs of seam-up and bagged 4 or so wickets; Will Siebert, who plied his leg-spinning trade with great skill and courage and was unlucky not to get more than a single wicket; James Tod, who looked back to his best; Stanners, who turned the clock back and had the ball on a bit of string; and Scottie....
Wickets fell with some regularity, although there were partnerships too and only adroit manipulation of the attack and the field - not my words...obviously - saw them broken; that and some very fine catches, notably by James Tod, James Caldwell, Jono and Toby (at least 2 if not 3).
When the final wicket fell, the Household were 20-odd short and a famous victory was ours.
[Your scribe regrets the '-odds' and 'or so's, which are explained by the fact that no official record exists of exactly who scored what etc., as the Household's normally trustworthy computer, on which we have also always relied, packed up, seemingly never to recover, at least so far as this game is concerned!]
