Match report
On a cold and wet day in April at Stone cricket Club, the Grannies arrived with a decent side wondering how early they would be calling time and enjoying their first pint of Harveys in the Ferry Inn. The Stone groundsmen however had other ideas, they had done a fantastic job in preparing a great wicket given the weather and a reduced match of 25 overs a side took place. The ground looked great and their new covers had done the job.
Stone batted first and despite an early wicket for Stuart Slaughter, got off to a bit of a flyer. Both the opener and no.3 got 50's as they ended their 25 overs 4 down for 140. The wickets were shared between Savage and Slaughter (a menacing combo) and Bellhouse with some tight bowling from Lee and Burton.
The Grannies then embarked on their mission of chasing down 140 and for the first 10 overs were on course for a memorable victory as Alastair Simmie (40), Tom Burton and James Caldwell got us off to a great start. I would like to say conditions closed in and we got the worst of them however that would be wrong, the Grannies suffered a mini collapse before John Newton tried to pick up the pace towards the end of the innigs, scoring a quick fire 19 before running out of overs a mere 30 runs short.
Credit must go to the Stone groundsmen, the ground looked fantastic and the wicket played very true and fair. It was a very enjoyable match played in good spirit despite the weather.
