Result - The Bar of England & Wales

Sun Jul 2nd Grannies win by 58 runs

Match report

The Grannies won the toss in this 35-over contest, and batted on a scorching day - and the Bar toiled.

Billy Maisey and Jonny Morris led the way with accomplished and attractive batting that took their partnership to 104. Jonny was then out for 30 and Billy 68 and they were followed by cameos, including a stylish 29 from Tom Hoskyns, and the Grannies closed on a daunting 230 for 8, the demanding Sam Stockwell and the nagging Gordon Lee (both also Grannies) registering figures of 3 for 32 and 3 for 51 respectively for the Bar.

In reply Jay Stockham (22), Sam Stockwell (22) and Jamie Williams (32) (Grannies all) got starts but were pegged back principally by Martin Stringer (back from Oz to get married but still able to find a length - 5-1-16-1), James Battersby, who put his off-breaks on a sixpence (7-0-23-3)and the resident all-rounder Billy who blew away the tail (6-0-42-3) - and the Bar were all out for 172 in 32 overs.

The Grannies thus ran out victors by 58 runs.

As ever our profound thanks go to Phil Davy, Tony and Caroline Scott-Gall and all the Armadillos who work so hard to give us such days to remember at the glorious Sheffield Park.
