Match report

A nice evening, a great track and everyone arrives on time for the 6:00 start - whats not to like.

The Grannies won the toss in the usual Dusters' style of 'you bat first then we can get the BBQ going' so Sean Keaton and a bemused Peter 'bowler' Weissmann padded up and strolled to the wicket. After a few looseners to remind himself what batting is about Sean Keaton soon returned to type and rapidly cruised to 30 and retired. 'Bowler' Pete, opening for the first time he could recall, soon reprised his form from the previous week at Hurlingham and also went to 30 and retired.

Enter the 'dark blues', Sykes and Stringer, or chalk and cheese if you prefer - Toby giving it the classic off drive and forward defensive while Martin gave it the long handle. Same result though with both falling in the mid twenties while pushing hard.

Extras chipped in with 18 runs as next highest scorer; a quick 8* from Ben Yeates on his return to Grannies cricket after three years in the saddle and Theo Allport (c) with a cracking six over mid wicket followed by another attempt that looked to have gone until an athletic Duster jumped, palmed it back, ran back on and caught it; all without the aid of a boundary rope or TMO. Hmmmm says Theo .... no idea says fielder .... out says Granny umpire. So the innings closed on 163 for 5 which is not bad for what the MM thought was a Grannies side light of batting.

The Dusters' openers, dressed like proper batsmen, had the air of "they can bat now lets see if they can bowl'. Three overs later and both are back in the hutch after the Matt Ireland (c)/ Sean Keaton combo worked its magic. Great support from Ali Stokes (c - long time Old Spots opener and Grannies' nemesis) from the other end went unrewarded but kept the rate down. Stanners made a rare appearance in Dulwich for the evening and came away with a pair before Strings was unleashed to take another couple. 'Bowler' Pete was allowed an over to keep his hand in and with an interlude of spin from Mike Anstey and Theo Allport the Dusters ran out of steam at 148.

I'm not sure who won the BBQ but I'm sure we gave it a good effort. Thanks to the Dusters for being the usual great hosts with a great track and well stocked BBQ and also thanks to T Sykes Esq for skippering on the night as the MM naffed off to Rye at half time.
