Match report
For the first time in the history of the competition the Incogs were able to get their name onto the decanter trophy - well the last part of their name at least - following a dramatic final which at one point looked to be heading for a draw.
Having conceded the match on the last green last year after either poor communication or a golfing collapse (depending on whether you take T Sykes or N Yeates as your authority) the Grancogs once again found their way to the final having beaten MCC on the first day.
With a strong team of mainly single figure handicappers, the Grancogs won easily at the top and bottom of the order, Yeates and Jenkins winning 3 & 2 and then Philpott and Dyson putting the bottom Foresters pairing to the sword 6 & 5.
But in what turned out to be the decisive game, Grancogs turned at 4 down and were then 3 down with 3 to play. With Gordon and (captain) Bond losing to Creffield in game 3 the match score stood at 2-1 with Sykes and Lock fighting to get something from a match in which they had featured little. Undaunted, but needing a half to secure that elusive glassware, they fought on, winning the last 3 holes to secure a half point and see us win the day.
So a red letter day indeed with glorious spring sunshine and views of the Bristol Channel and North Devon acting as a splendid back drop to a splendid couple of days.
