Result - Parham Park

Sun Jul 12th Win by 24 runs in a 35 over game

Match report

The is seldom a game at Parham where everyone doesn't participate in some way or another and this year was no exception. After a compulsory fielding practice, orchestrated by George Laurence (alias Colin Bland in his youth ) everyone chipped in with their own cameo and the Grannies came away with a win in a 35 limited over game in which we posted a healthy 189 for 9. Parham were up with the chase at 5 to 6 per over but in the end fell 24 short with the loss of 8 wickets. The opening pair of Will Devitt (44) and Rex Worth (33) gave us a great start with Will stroking the first ball for 4 through the covers. The momentum continued with Richard Glover (33) and Alistair Silk (14) in his first Granny game. A mini collapse ensued with Draff, Staniforth and Wynne going cheaply, which put us on the back foot for a short while. But at the other end Johnny Morris was biding his time before crunching 20 off the last over which gave us a respectable score to defend. Parham started steadily against some tight bowling by Staniforth, Glover, Devitt and Silk (who got his first C&B wicket for the Grannies) but it was the spinning guile of Rex Worth (3 for 30) and Fernie (2 for 24) who opened the door and put Parham fatally behind the run chase as wickets tumbled.
