Result - The Griffin

Sat Jul 12th Grannies win by 8 wickets

Match report

The Siebert household produced a fitting start to another wonderful day in the East Sussex countryside. Gill and Matt put on a rose fuelled barbecue for the hungry masses as the Grannies began the day on the right foot.

Cumnor House provided the setting for a marvellous Grannies display. Having won the toss (his only contribution) the elder Yeates rotation system in the field resulted in a fine performance as the Griffin couldnt cope with the sheer number of different bowlers that we had brought in, ranging from the wily fox, Staniforth to the bewitching leg spin and precise medium pace of the young Siebert and Dare duo making their first Grannies appearances.

The Pullan brothers began the Griffin innings, David managing to restrain his brothers more explosive tendencies with the bat to produce a rather sedate opening partnership. As the Grannies tied them down the Griffin began to lose key wickets at regular intervals with Pete Kenny bagging 3. A strong 5th wicket pair though took the pub to 176-4 dec. by tea.

Another fantastic Cumnor House tea later and the Grannies were ready to take on the total. Chris Good and Richard Snowden opened the innings as the Grannies struggled at first to come to terms with a slow and soggy pitch. A trim looking Chris Tanous turned out at slip for the pub, which saw the Grannies looking tentative on the drive. As the batsmen dug in they were able to acclimatise themselves, with Chris (59*) and Duncan Ellis (70*) providing great entertainment in a hundred partnership that saw the ball dispatched to all corners. Sadly they neglected to remember the further 9 batsmen we had lying in wait as they saw off the total themselves.

A fine family day out (with quite the crowd) crowned a rare Grannies victory. What better place to celebrate than the Griffin itself and the Pullans latest invention, a mobile garden bar. As always much fun was had by all and we look forward to next year.

Ed Note: Great to see Joss Dare and family back from Dubai, specifically to play in the match.
