Sat Jun 14th The Grannies win

Match report

The Grannies lost the toss and were told to bowl, there had been a lot of rain the night before but the pitch, as always, looked good, fast and nice to bat on. Peter SW was steaming in from one end and did initially struggle to get his line, George Marsh was steady and got the first two wickets, Olly West was very unlucky not to get a wicket as he gave a good demonstration on how to bowl left arm swing in the warm, cloudy and sometimes drizzly conditions. The Hurlingham were 148 for 3 at lunch which is a good place to be from the bowling side given we start at 11 am and the pitch is usually a 300 run setting.

After lunch The Grannies needed to squeeze and contain, something we did well starting with a good old fashioned bowled Brennan, stumped Brennan, a direct hit run out from Charles OKelly and good bowling performances from Peter SW ( 3 for and really got his line this time around) Charlie OKelly ( 3 for) and James Howie who bowled very well trying to get them to play out of their crease. They declared on 254 for 9.

Our reply was excellent - Charlie OKelly scoring 75 and was given out LB by their Umpire which was interesting given the wicket keeper was appealing on the leg side! Tom Brierley scored and assured 40 odd and our number 3 ( Greg West,) looking like Mike Brown, scored an excellent 97 but was sadly bowled as he thought about which celebration he was going to do. A mini batting collapse then took place but we managed to control it with J Brennan making sure there was no way we were losing this game, George Marsh joined him to hit the winning runs. we were 8 down with 10 overs to go.

A great performance with everyone doing something, one of the real differences was having a youthful side in the field, jumping around.
