Sat Jun 7th Grannies lose

Match report

Another terrific day of cricket at this fabulous country ground. The Old Spots sponged off the ground after a terrific thunderstorm the day before so we could play...but the wet conditions meant a low scoring match.

The Grannies won the toss and chose to field. Martin Stringers extra pace on a helpful deck kept the locals at bay. Every time the Old Spots looked like they might pull away wickets were taken. Special note here must go to Will Addison who pouched 3 fantastic catches which were made all the more memorable given his decision to field in fancy dress. Golf shoes and a poachers hat clearly acted as a magnet (target ?) for the oppo batsmen. Special mention must go to Tom Gibbs who steamed in at the death and took 4 excellent wickets. At the close of the agreed 30 overs the Old Spots had managed to knock up a hard earned 140. The interval brought the usual gorging on world class ham sarnies. Unfortunately this appeared to have a detrimental effect on stand in skipper Siebert and James what do you mean Im late Scott. Both scratched around, desperately looking for a bit of form. Arm bands were duly despatched into the middle but had no effect as the Grannies sank behind the run rate. Gradually things picked up once Leng had bowled out. However, the team had too much to do and as a result fell 15 runs short. All in all though an enjoyable day made more so by the sartorial elegance of Mr Addison and the little before seen site of Scottie arriving at the ground before the tea ladies.

How to get there
Follies Farm is a mile out of Chiddingfold on the road to Dunsfold. Chiddingfold is on the A283 about halfway between Milford (just off the A3) and Petworth.
