Fri May 23rd Local knowledge carries Si Baldey to comfortable win

Match report

"After Justin Rose(Goodwood's golfing ambassador) had usurped our original fixture date ,7 Grannies (Andy Carr, Simon Baldey,Nigel Draffan ,Mike Fernie,Gerald Slocock ,Nick and Alice Yeates)took up the challenge of trying to tame the Downs course on a blustery day with strong southerly winds and the odd squally showers blowing off the channel.

We split ourselves into one 3 ball and a fourball with the more elderly gang treating themselves to buggies. At the end of the day as we settled down to a wholesome lunch ,Nick totted up our stableford scores to find that Simon snuck in to win the day with 31 points and the longest drive on the 18th .The prize for nearest the pin on the 12th went to Alice ,as the only one amongst us to actually land
on the green, but the most prestigious prize of the day went to Mike for two of the most outrageous shots which prompted Nigel to present him with a wooden replica of the Grannies rocking chair ,which he had carved by an apprentice carpenter on the Kenya/Somali border. Nigel has suggested that this replica of our logo should be used as the prize at future golf days for the most memorable moment of the day."
