Result - Rascals

Sat May 10th Grannies win by 30 runs

Match report

After a delayed start a 30 over game was agreed. The Grannies lost the toss and were put into bat. We lost Ashley Butterworth early on to the wiley legspin of 14 year old Kit Ross (who had played for us with distinction last year). Will Finn and Charles Bailey built a solid but not spectacular start against some tight bowling before Will (27) pushed one to extra cover with the score on 55 with around 15 overs gone. The Captain and Bailey then took the game to the Rascals with a stand of 140 in around 11 overs with Bailey scoring 70 (7x4, 3x6) and Gardiner-Hill 102 (12x4, 5x6) including going from 80 to 102 in 4 balls and being out the next ball. A few lusty blows from Wood (4), Griffiths (13) and Job (4) left the Rascals chasing 239 to win.
After a good tea from Paul Ross the Rascals started their chase. Good bowling from Nick Wood (including the early wicket of Paul Ross well caught by Griffiths at silly mid off) and Pari Job kept the runs tight. Will Drew and Paul Keeling put on a good stand with Drew getting 64 and Keeling 93 (with a little break for cramp). Tight bowling and enthusiastic fielding, blighted by a number of dropped catches of varying difficulty levels, restricted the Rascals to 206 in their 30 overs - one of their highest totals at Stonegate.
Thanks to all those who played and particularly to the walking wounded (they know who they are!). The Rascals did a brilliant job (in their own relaxed style!) of getting the pitch ready on a blustery wet day and we were very lucky to get a whole game in without a single interruption for the regular rain showers.
