Sun Jul 14th Grannies win off the last ball !

Match report

The excitement of England winning the 1st Test by 14 runs was nothing compared to the tension of the Grannies winning with the last ball of the day from our guest player,Harry Hollowood, who bowled out the Parham Estate's Head Forester! It was one of those magical day's cricket played under a scorching sun where every player contributed in some way to the overall victory.
We won the toss and elected to bat .Simon Baldey, of Rolls Royce fame, and Ashley Butterworth made a solid start, with Simon going on to make 76,followed by Jonny Morris chipping in with 23 after a late night out and our two guest players and potential Grannies (George Cairns and Harry Hollowood)carrying their bats for 34 and 13 respectively, allowing me to declare at tea at 171 for 3 after 42 overs.
Jon Stnniforth and Jonny Morris opened the bowling and within 7 overs Stanners had their 3 best batsmen back in the hutch with some inspired swing bowling( 7.5.19.3)Not surprisingly after a Regimental fancy dress ball in Norfolk and treading on broken glass in the early hours,Morris's radar was marginally less accurate !This allowed the rest of the game to be dominated by the spinners and some outstanding catches- one by Rob Cranston with a one handed blinder which turned the game. Wickets fell steadily and with 20 overs and 5 wickets still standing ,honours were divided bewteen Martin Emmison (4 overs 1 for 25),Ollie Glass (10 overs 2 for 27),Jeremy Wynne(5 overs 1 for 25) and Harry Hollowood (8 overs 3 for 6) with Harry bowling their last man with the last ball of the day. What a classic!
