Result - Lord Carnarvon's XI

Sun Jun 23rd Grannies come up just short

Match report

An excellent bowling and fielding display followed by exciting Downton tree-peppering batting for 1 1/2 hours disappointingly culminated in defeat by 33 runs, only 100 having been required by the Grannies at the 20-over mark with 6 wickets in hand. Garforth, T. Brierley, Stanners, Rooney and Fernie all bowled stylishly and to good purpose, working their way through the opposition, aided by catching of high calibre in the outfield, 4 going to James Marsh, who made it look deceptively easy under the tree at clip corner; Stanners and Jono took the honours with 4 and 3 wickets respectively.282 for 8 declared was a decent outcome on a small ground. Our innings began at a lick, James marsh rattling up 42 before committing an indiscretion (for which we will forgive him, after 124* and 84 and Hogs and Goodwood!). At 90 for 4 Tom Brierley (76) was joined by Scottie (58) and took us to what seemed like the threshold of victory with a stand of 100 and plenty, but sometime Granny Alastair Smellie turning the clock back returned for a second spell, induced several headless chicken impressions (none worse than that of the captain for the day) and brought about our decline and ultimately fall.
As ever we were indebted to Lord Carnarvon for his hospitality and a great day in magical surroundings was had by all.

Match info

What more do I have to say than this game is played on one of the foremost private estates in the country. The lunches and teas are legendary, the welcome warm, the bar is well stocked. A beautiful ground in a beautiful estate - this game is perfect to bring the family along to. Roll out the picnic blanket, watch Lord Carnarvon updating the scoreboard and the Grannies running around in the field.

For those who still watch ITV, this estate is where Downtown Abbey is filmed.

This game is one not to be missed!!! Apply early because take up is high.
