Result - Odiham & Greywell

Sat Sep 15th The Grannies won by 6 wickets

Match report

Rather against the grain of the last 2-3 years, the Grannies were comprehensive victors against a young Odiham team. The opposition started well, having been put in, but failed to capitalise on a useful opening stand. Ian Muireden & Tom Brierley bowled with good pace & accuracy (the former chipping in with a hostile spell that certainly softened up our keeper, James Brierley's mitts) and assured that Odiham weren't really able to push on. Siebert & Hill then came on & bought 4 wickets between them as Odiham scored 184-6 in 35 overs (Hill 3-55). In reply, while Matt Gullick fell cheaply, Doug Ferguson (who, like Muireden kindly stepped in at the last moment) & Jim Streeter rather spoiled the game by putting on 148 for the second wicket in 23 overs. With the game all but won, Big Jim remembered that this was the Grannies he was playing for, so got out thereby sparking the traditional Grannies middle order mess. Thankfully only 15 were needed to win & the Grannies completed the task with May swatting the ball to the boundary as the Grannies won with 8 overs to spare (Streeter 88, Ferguson 73). For those that have played this game before, you will be saddened to hear that the old club house suffered an arson attack earlier in the year. We wish them well in raising funds for a new pavilion, which i am told will be in place in time for 2013 season.

Match info

An end of season Grannies favourite...we've had mixed results against Odiham and Greywell which rather depends on whether they field a team of youth and grey hair or a team including a sprinkling of their 1st team. Always enjoyed by the Grannies the mixture of a good pitch, welcoming oppo plus a bar make this an excellent way to see off the season.
