Result - St Paul's

Thu May 24th The Grannies win by 30 runs

Match report

On the hottest day of the year to date and with the majority of the team ready for there first run out of the season there wasn't a huge amount of expectation as we were put in to bat.

The skipper requested a minimum of 120 and ideally 140. The openers set out to the task well and after 6 overs we were 72 for no wicket with Greg Chapmen and Lawrence Brennan looking like they had been playing all season. Greg departed trying to hit another large six but no quite connecting and getting caught on the boundry for a brisk 45.Lawrence continued to stroke the bowl to all areas of the ground ably assistsed by Ed Warner who came in at 3. after our allotted 20 overs we had reached a commanding 185 for 1. Ed reaching 28 with Lawrence sadly just short of his hundred on 97 not out.

The Grannies took to the field in confident mood without being complacent and took to the task well without too much reward as the opposition openers taking a little while to settle in started to make ground on there mamouth target. Quick thinking from Barney Green split up a good opening partnership with a run out with the scores on 85 after 11. With the chase always below the run rate it gave everyone a chance to have a bowl. There captain and opening bat didn't give up and others started to fall around him. Greg Chapman finally making sure any hope of victory from the opposition was dashed as he took 3 wickets for 5 runs in his two over spell at the end with St Paul's finishing on 155 for 6 giving the Grannies there first victory of the season.
