Result - Leigh CC

Sun Sep 11th Grannies WIN by 8 wickets

Match report

It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon in the field after the Grannies lost the toss and the Leigh openers had cantered to 48 without loss in just 8 overs.
However, a canny bowling change by captain Ashley Butterworth saw Adam Newton's leg spin brought into the attack early and the pendulum soon swung back the Grannies way.
First, Will Snowden took a fantastic one handed catch on the boundary edge to dismiss one of the Leigh openers off the newly introduced bowling of Adam Newton. Then, in the following over, Andrew Carr held onto a skyer at deep mid-on off Greg Chapman.
A Leigh collapse followed thanks to some inspired spin bowling from Adam Newton and the very fine wicket-keeping skills of Will Finn who bagged the remainder of the Leigh top order with three seamless stumpings.
Adam Newton was now in unstoppable form and ended with match figures of 13-3-24-7.It was a brilliant effort to turn the game around as he bewildered the Leigh side from 50-0 to 84 all out.
He was ably assisted by Greg Chapman and Will Snowden who both bowled beautifully, not giving Leigh a sniff, and finished with figures of 9-3-23-1 and 6-1-6-1 respectively.
The Grannies are used to close games at Leigh over the years but were determined that this was not going to be one of them. An assured opening partnership saw Will Finn and Richard Snowden take the Grannies to 30 without loss. Both perished soon after but Julian Graham (16 not out) and a sprightly 29 not out by Will Snowden saw the Grannies home with eight wickets to spare.
Many thanks to Julian Graham and Richard Snowden for agreeing to play at very late notice after a couple of unavoidable cancellations. Thanks also to Ashley Butterworth for captaining the side.
