Result - Turks

Sun Sep 4th Grannies lost by 7 wickets in 25 overs match

Match report

Unfortunately the rain did arrive at 1pm, so after hanging around and with the forecast suggesting it should improve the team departed for the Bull.
With a pint in hand, a call from the opo at 2pm said the rain had stopped, so it was back to the ground for a 25 over game.
With the result of the game hanging on the toss, the Grannies lost it and were inserted.
David Sibree took two nasty blows to the hand and was happy to walk when an appeal for caught behind was made. However, his partner John Newton was in fine form, perhaps the result of the bitter shandy and went on to score 59. Ben Yates made a patient 28 not out, but with it harder than normal on a wet Stonegate wicket and 122 for 4 was never going to be enough.
So it proved, with Tom Gibbs taking the only three wickets from his 5 overs for 16 runs. The Turks scored the runs within 20 overs on a drying out track and primarily by one chap from the Hastings league.
At least we got a game which initially looked very unlikely, with everyone getting to do something.
A big thank you to all who played, particularly to Tom, who came down from Cambridge.

Match info

The Turks are a wandering side and are likely to consist of players from the Band Of Brothers, and a Surrey County ringer. With John Rayer in tow we will be fine.
