Sun Jul 10th Awaiting final result

Match report

A thoroughly enjoyable day at Sheffield Park hosting IZ Australia on thier first tour here since 1994. On a fine, sunny day Grannies won the toss and batted and made good progress to lunch, 120 for 2. Everyone contributed: F Palmer 27, M Bellhouse 39, P Amiss 29, E Gardiner-Hill 35, Ed Brennan 25, the highlight was Olly West with 59 who found the gaps beautifully despite haveing 5 fielders on the boundary after 25 overs. We declared after 57 overs at 241 for 7.
Our bowling before tea was loose and they were comfortable with 67 without loss after 12 overs. Wickets came slowly after tea and wasn't until we finally dislodged Phil Horne (played 4 Test for NZ in the 1980s!) for 95 that we applied some pressure. Our bowlers toiled away with Ed Brennan 12-0-61-3 and Olly West 12.4-0-43-2 the best. They got there after 45 overs with 3 remaining and therefore won by 4 wickets.
We were presented with a plaque to be hung in our pavilion in the hope we will be able to host them again one day again soon. They were charming oppostion and were thrilled to have played at Sheffield Park, such a significant place to Australian cricket over the years.
