Result - Stone in Oxney

Sun Aug 15th Grannies win by 5 wickets

Match report

A good crowd assembled at Stone with family support from Brennans, Newtons, Percivals - and a pair of stray Villiers-Smiths. A 35-over match was agreed and Stone were inserted.Eddie Brennan and Mike Bellhouse bowled well and picked up 3 (all to dismissals by the keeper...standing up) and 2 wickets respectively, and Ed G-H, Adam Newton and, for the first time in Grannies colours, Patrick Tolhurst also got among the wickets with tidy spells. A decent fielding display included a fine, falling-over-and-trapping-the-ball-between-arm-and-tummy catch by Robert Leachman, playing on his 936th (I think) ground. The inings ended on 201 for 8. Ed G-H then laid about him with 40 in about 12 balls. Lawrence Brennan made a cultured 32. John Newton, prolific with the dab, made 23. Overshadowing them all was a mighty 70 by Mike Bellhouse, who smote the ball to all parts. Needless to say, there was a wobble, but we got them with 5 down and about 4 overs to go. Our thanks to Stone for a great match, and another helping of their warm and generous hospitality.
