Result - Old Amplefordians

Thu Aug 5th Lost by 9 wickets

Match report

Having had 18 hours to get over this loss the only solace I can take from it is that Pakistan are currently 13 - 3 which is marginally worse than we were yesterday at the same time!!

This was sadly not a good day in the office, or rather out of it, for the Grannies team. Strong on paper, weak in delivery!

Having lost the toss and been put in on a wicket known for it's runs the wickets started to fall from the first ball of the second over. Some rash batting and a little misfortune meant we were 45 for 5 with an hour to lunch. Toby Davis stuck to the task in hand and batted well on debut for an elegant 36 but fell just before lunch. A 68 run 9th wicket partnership from John Davies and Mark de St Croix gave the scoreline a minimal amount of respectability but we were finally all out, without the use of the referral system for 169. 151 runs short of the target set by the captain.

Early wickets were crucial but with some loose bowling and no luck this wasn't to be. Dom Fry bowled incredibly well and on another day could well have picked up a fifer.

Thanks to everyone who freed up there day to play we will have to come back fighting next year I think we can just put it down to one of those cricketing days!

As I close of pakistan are 34 - 4 so we were still ahead of them this time yesterday - little consolation but a bit of a perspective.

Match info

Great excuse to get out of the sweaty office. Always a good close game that unfortunatly we have narrowly lost on the past couple of occassions. The oppo are on tour for the week and the ground catering is superb. The pitch itself is excellent, home to the school 1st XI and kent 2's.
