Result - Falconhurst

Sat Jul 3rd Grannies lost by 8 wickets.

Match report

A team of nine Grannies took on a Falconhurst side of ten on a tranquil and sunny afternoon in the Kent countryside.
The Grannies batted first and soon lost the wicket of Sean Renard who gallantly walked to one the umpire later admitted he would not have given.
The basis of the Grannies innings then followed with Matt Gullick and Greg Chapman putting on a fine second wicket partnership of 83.
Matt Gullick batted with grace and power and was finally dismissed by a relieved Falconhurst for 66.
Greg Chapman played some sweet cover drives and late cuts on his way to a useful 36.
The innings rather collapsed after this partnership ended and the Grannies slumped from 97 for two to 153 all out. Richard Crowley contributed 24 and Ashley Butterworth 16 to the final total.
After a sumptuous tea Falconhurst were soon in trouble at 38 for 2. Greg Chapman capturing both early wickets LBW.
Greg shared the opening spell with Richard Crowley who was unlucky not to get a wicket and ended the match with figures of 7-0-39-0. Greg Chapman finished with a return of 6-2-34-2.
However, after these initial successes the Falconhurst batsman took a liking to the Grannies bowling and reached our target of 153 without losing another wicket.
Despite the rather one sided result the game was played in an excellent spirit and with the match finishing by 7.00pm we all retired to the local pub for afters.
Many thanks to Ashley Butterworth for captaining the side, the Chairman for keeping wicket to some tricky bowling and also to Sean Renard for inviting his half brother Russell Tinney (on holiday from South Africa) to play for us. Russell had not played cricket before but put his baseball skills to fine use in the field as well as bowling two overs.
