Result - Rascals

Sat May 15th Grannies lost by 4 wickets with 1 over remaining

Match report

The Grannies lost the customarily late toss and were inserted. After a dreadful start - 5 for 3 - the Grannies batted respectably with Richard Snowden starring with 52 including a sweetly struck 6 over mid off before being put off by a break in play due to a rain shower. Waddington, Gardiner-Hill and Williams all got starts but were unable to contribute significant scores. Final score was 162 - a respectable total we thought and enough to give a decent chance of defending.
Newcomb and Gardiner-Hill opened the bowling and kept it tight but were unlucky with 3 catches going down reasonably early including a sitter for the captain off his own bowling. This left us in difficulty but a good catch in the covers from Nick Yeates and some sterling work from late arrival John Rayer (who returned from holiday in Amalfi that day and was kind enough to play after turning up to watch and give his dog a walk!) who took 4/5 wickets gave us hope. Unfortunately the hopes were dashed as our out of practice bowlers worked hard but struggled for rhythm and the Rascals continued to score at the required rate until Grigson came in and finished the game off with a few lusty blows.
Altogether a good fun game which was in the balance until the last couple of overs. Thanks to all of the players for their efforts.
