Match report

The Pendulum: 2005 Grannies lose. 2006 Grannies win. 2007 Grannies lose. 2008 Grannies win. This year the annual swing between victory and loss at this popular end of season match was condensed into one afternoon with the pendulum running out of energy at 6.45 pm with the scores level. Chris The Gette Bazelgette had come on to bowl with just a handful needed and a ninth wicket partnership gaining momentum only to see an increasingly confident spotty teen Dil-scoop his second ball over the top of our Chairman behind the stumps. His next shot was his last - caught. Still a dozen needed by the last pair but after three balls of the next Gette over scores were level...the Pendulum which had been on our side for all but the last few overs had deserted us...the field came in and the batsman, having previously looked utterly assured whilst smashing it to all corners, chipped it to point. Start the celebrations. We should have won it, we thought wed lost it and we all settled for a tie.

The brown haze on wicket and outfield convinced the skipper to bat after calling correctly but the wicket was two paced with occasional steep bounce. We didnt bat well, losing 5 wickets for not much above 50 only the skipper staying around to cash in on the inevitable loose bowling. Matt Siebert joined Jim and together they took the total past the hundred, Matt eventually nursing the tail towards our total of 162. It looked 25 runs short until Dom Ely and Sam Weston-Simons got the ball in their hands and very quickly swung the pendulum back our way. Dom, after a summer sabbatical (?), bowled beautifullyhe said he felt like he was a nineteen year old ..only without the same sex life. Both he and Sam had all the batsmen fending the ball off their chinssome of them actually used their chin to do the fending. It was exciting opening bowling. Bobby Forrest, on debut, continued the chin music. Odiham were 8 down with not much more than 100 on the board. Then came the fight back and along with it the pendulum.

Excellent way to end the season with the usual hospitality from the thriving Odiham and Greywell CC.

Match info

An end of season Grannies favourite...we've had mixed results against Odiham and Greywell which rather depends on whether they field a team of youth and grey hair or a team including a sprinkling of their 1st team. Always enjoyed by the Grannies the mixture of a good pitch, welcoming oppo plus a bar make this an excellent way to see off the season.

Oh...and I can guarentee sunshine.
