Result - Stone in Oxney CC

Sun Aug 16th Grannies draw

Match report

Stone, inserted, got away to a fast start and ran up 235 for 7 against an attack heavily dependent on Mike Bellhouse, son-in-law of John Newton, who took 5. That said, the war-horse that is John Rayer came back for a fine second spell, when finally given the right end. In reply a cautious start by Butterworth and Newton turned into a partnership of 94, AB knocking off the shine on his way to 23 and JN, when he finally got it off the square, moving to an attractive 71. A second significant partnership was to follow between said Bellhouse and a sprightly Charlie Warner. All was set fair for a fine first win until, on 46 MB ran thinking the ball had passed the field, only for a sly Stone-ite to rise up with the ball and throw him out. With this the chase stalled, CW being out for 20, and we ended on 216 for 7. A major reason for our coming up short was a fine spell by a 17-year-old, Ryan Knight, whose figures were 12-7-15-3 - definitely one to watch.
An excellent day was had by all. Our hosts could not have done more for us. Tea was as good as it gets - anywhere. And the ground and new pavilion were joys to behold
