Result - Parham Park C.C.

Sun Jul 19th The Grannies lose by 8 wickets having been 99 all out.

Match report

Whilst this is one of the most charming grounds and enjoyable fixtures,we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory on this occasion and lost by 8 wickets. However ,as always at Parham there are always some stellar moments with Stanners bowling their captain for a golden duck with a ball that pitched on leg stump and took the off stump---at least that is how Stanners told the story to his admiring fielders !Then Fred Lucas,a prospective member and the brother of my Godson, took a stunning one handed catch over his head at cover to dismiss their normally prolific run scorer. These moments apart we made a promising start with Paul Knight(20) and Ben Yeates(14) stroking the ball to all parts of the boundary. Then a collapse of 4 quick wickets in a single over occurred with their strike bowler having the opportunity of having 3 hatrick balls in one over, but at least we denied him the pleasure of not getting either hatrick ! As Ricky Ponting said after being stuffed by England "at least we can take a few positives into our next game! "There was then a brief rally by Ed Daffarn(20) and Oli Walden(17)before we were all out for 99 .
Having been fortified by a scrummy tea and some hostile swing bowling from Stanners and Walden there was just a sniff in the air that we might pull off the improbabale but our hopes were short lived as their opening bat went into overdrive smiting mighty 4's and 6's to all parts of the ground .Our meagre total of 99 was soon overhauled with their opener contributing 78 of them--we will get him next year and reverse the tables !
It was also just wonderful to be supported by our veteran Vice-President, Willoughby Wynne, who took over the scoring with aplomb and regailed the opposition with Granny stories.
