Result - Stragglers of Asia

Sun May 17th Awaiting final result

Match report

Grannies fielded 9 but despite this, put in a good performance as fortunately we had several all rounders and a decent keeper in the form of first time Granny, Tristan Rodgers. Notwithstanding that we lost the match.

Batting first against a decent attack but on a drying and improving wicket, we made 240 for 6 declared with Kamal Chhibber (59) and Ed Williams (a fine 83) forming the backbone of the innings and Stephen Hornsby (28) a good opening stand, plus Hugo Llewelyn(26) and Tristan Rodgers (20) brisk cameos at the end.

Tom Gibbs and Kamal Chhibber opened the bowling and kept things tight until the Stragglers' number 3 came in - a former top level Zimbabwean cricketer. Once he had his eye in, even the canny skills of Mike Fernie and Gerald Slocock couldn't keep him from scoring freely and he ended up 120 not out, with the Stragglers making 242 for 5 with six overs to spare. Ed Williams took two wickets with some decent bowling also.

A good match with sporting opposition. All we need is a full team for next year and we ll have them
