Result - Turks

Sun Sep 22nd Match Drawn

Match report

On a very overcast but muggy day, the Grannies agreed to field as half the Turks were stuck in traffic.
This turned out to perhaps not be the best decision, as the ball was continually dispatched to all parts of the ground by one of the batsmen.
Following a change of bowling and a couple of wickets things tightened up and by tea the Grannies were set 239 runs to win, having taken 9 wickets.
Pete Kenny and Ed Skilbeck having taking 3 wickets each for lots and Toby Gundry taking 2, for also lots.
This was always going to be a tall order and was made even harder by some tight bowling by the Turks, who appeared not to be willing to make a game of it.
It had been decided to take 20 overs from 5pm, but with an umpire who was sticking by the Laws of the game and the light not having got any better, but slightly deteriorated only 10 of these overs were bowled and a draw was the result.
Both Jay Brismead-Stockham (41) and Jonny Morris (62 not out) had played sensibly, but we had still only managed 131 for 3 by the time the umpire had said enough was enough.
The manner of the result was a first for everyone and rather a disappointment although a draw looked liked being the likely result anyway.
I am sure there will be further discussions as to how we try to avoid the same thing happening again.
Have a good winter.
