Result - St Paul's 'All Stars'

Thu May 23rd Winning draw for the Grannies

Match report

The Grannies blooded a number of new players for the evening 20/20 game v's St Pauls common room with five new faces representing the side for stand in match manager Ed Warner.

Toss lost, the Grannies were put into the field and in traditional style started the game with eight players and just three recognised bowlers. Unsurprisingly St Pauls made a racy start with the openers putting on a hundred before the loss of the first wicket. Team complete by 7pm, the Grannies bowled some tight overs from JJ Ticehurst, Jamie Warner, Nick Bourne and Geoff Watson and wickets started to fall including a notably smart leg side stumping from B.Percival. A rather loose stand in over from the skipper resulted in some late boundary chasing and St Paul's ended with a competitive 165 runs for the loss of 3 wickets off 20 overs.

By the time the Grannies openers made it out to the middle dark clouds were looming but this didn't stop Lawrence Brennan(57*) and Nick Bourne getting off to a good start before Ed and Lawrence knocked a quick 50 run partnership including one six that dented the paint work of a new BMW owned by a wealthy St Paul's parent. Fortunately public liability insurance in place the game continued before Ed top edged to square leg leaving Lawrence and James Goodhew continuing to bludgeon boundaries. Light fading fast and rain beginning to fall, St Pauls called for a pink cricket ball as they felt their fielders were in danger of not seeing the ball such was the ferocity of the Grannies stroke play. Eventually on 125 for 3 after 15 overs the hail stones started falling and the game was abandoned. Disappointment that a finish couldn't be achieved but the Chairman left relived that his new Jaguar had not come in the firing line of some swashbuckling Grannies batting.
