Result - Rascals

Sat May 11th Grannies won by 15 runs

Match report

A thrilling victory for 8 Grannies and Kit Ross (son of Paul), down to the last two balls.

The Grannies lost the toss and were inserted in a 35 over game (reduced to 30 because of rain) on a cold and threatening day at Stonegate. After a slow but solid start we lost Butterworth and Bailey at the end of the first 15 overs before Gardiner-Hill and Finn set about the Rascals attack, they both appeared to pass 50 fairly quickly (although the score book says 71 and 42 respectively!). Gardiner-Hill was out shortly after a quick rain break and then Noble added a quick fire 19 with Percival and Wynne finishing things off to leave the Grannies with a total of 191 from their 30 overs.
The Grannies took the field with 9 fielders. Rob Noble opened the bowling with Pari Job (7 overs 1 for 32) and Rob put the wind up a few Rascals batsmen with some real pace on a tricky but fair pitch. Rob removed both openers (one with a juggling catch at point from Butterworth)and Pari the number 3. The Grannies then introduced there not so secret weapon - Paul Ross (Rascals stalwart)14 year old leg spinning son Kit who tossed the ball up and turned it down the hill to take a creditable 2 for 35 from 5 overs. The Rascals number 6 was hitting the ball with some power and Noble (7 overs 4 for 27) was brought back to remove him with the target still very much in sight. Solid bowling from Percival (5 overs 1 for 27) and Bailey (2 overs 1 for 12) closed the game down and the Grannies crept home by 12 runs.
A very entertaining game played in fantastic spirit with a classy performace by a Grannies side low on numbers.
