Result - Dusters

Wed Jun 20th Grannies lose by 18 runs

Match report

A top Grannies attack ably supported by tight fielding kept the Dusters to a mere 95 for 8. John Davies, Khaleel Desai (c) and Jamie Warner kept the early order under control with some accurate pace and swing. Wickets fell at a steady rate but I'm not sure to whom as the College education seems to miss the niceties of scoring at cricket. However, Ben Yeates' second over saw a catch rapidly followed by a sharp leg break accounting for a dangerous looking batsmen second ball. The next batter being a lady fooled everyone until Hugo had her safely caught behind by the ever vigilant Ed Warner.

Fooled, yet again, into believing that this was an average Dusters batting side their bowling certainly wasn't. Three wickets down within three overs brought quality to the crease early. Larry Brennan and Ed Warner settled in and started scoring regularly but not hugely. The Dusters' deep ring field cutting off most boundary opportunities. Having seen off the openers Larry succumbed to the large offbreaker who then dealt with Dom Fry and Ben Yeates in short order. Enter our hero, back from a 24hr London to Paris ride, Hugo attempted a few lusty blows before being pegged back by the offy. He and Ed W then pushed hard on ones and twos, to the extent of Ed pulling a hamstring. Ably supported by brother Jamie as a runner the pace was maintained. Ed made a huge effort at the boundary count but the wily yorkers of the last bowler kept him under control and we went down by 18 runs.

Maybe it was the Chairman's parting comment 'you seem to have this under control' as he left with us on 35/3, that did us. Maybe it was the fleeting thought of ' that's a decent batting line up' at 10.00 that morning. Whatever, the BBQ was good and the Dusters their fun but competitive selves.
